Saving Felled Trees from the Burnpile for More Than 15 Years

Children of All Ages Love our Happy Little Bears
aaHAPPY.jpg

Every year, thousands upon thousands of mature trees are cut down, then discarded and burned.

In the midst of a burgeoning population, forests and woodlands are being razed for housing, or harvested for their wood. Outside of privatized forestry, more than 30 percent of felled trees cannot be milled, simply because of a little piece of metal embedded in them. Whether it is a barb from a farmer's fence, a nail from a sign or tree-spiker, or more likely, a hunter's errant bullet, the tree is now dangerous to cut, mill, or chip, and is doomed to being burned. Oak,maple, or walnut can be hand-culled and burned for warmth, however, pine and other soft-wood trees simply go up in a plume of smoke.

While we can't bring these majestic trees back to life, we can give them a new life as creative and amusing decorative and functional art for the home and garden.
